Jared Max And ESPN Radio 98.7 FM In NYC Have Parted Their Ways

jared maxIn a stunning announcement today, Jared Max who’s “Maxed Out” show kept NYC sports fans up to date on ESPN Radio New York 98.7 FM mornings from 4 AM to 6 AM along with anchoring SportsCenter updates during the morning drive “Mike and Mike” show, Max and 98.7 FM have parted ways.

Other than a statement from Max in which he thanks all his co-workers, listeners and ESPN plus a very short statement from ESPN which thanks him for his work and wishes him well, at the time of this writing no other information has been provided why Max’s going on three year tenure was cut other than Max’s contract was up and station management opted not to renew.

Max came out loud and proud in 2011 when he announced on-air to listerners that he was gay. But that is the least of which should be remembered about Jared Max a successful sports broadcaster and his program a #1 Arbitron rated program in the competitive New York City radio market.

It was his knowledge, his broadcast style and himself which endeared him to listeners. Max wrote in part in his statement on leaving, “Great thanks and gratitude to Scott Shapiro, Scott Masteller, Traug Keller and Chris LaPlaca at ESPN. I am a wiser man and better broadcaster because of you. To my friends who I worked with in the trenches before and after dawn, I will see you down the road. And, don’t forget Rush: ‘Changes aren’t permanent, but, change is.’ Thank you, ESPN. I wish you well.”

Now doubt Jared Max will be heard again somewhere on the radio dial, it’s only a matter of when and not if.

From one former radio sportscaster to another, good luck Jared and we’ll be listening for you on the radiowaves.
